Buying and storing beans

Great home espresso starts with great beans. Always choose fresh whole beans and check for a roast date rather than a use-by date. This tells you how recently the coffee was roasted. Beans stay at their best for a few weeks when sealed, but once they’re in the hopper or ground, they lose freshness quickly. To keep your coffee tasting vibrant, store whole beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry cupboard and grind only what you need.
